You know, I like Obama, but he is like every other politician out there. He wants to hit every voter possible so his advisers make plans and launch them. There is no "real way" to make something like this happen.

Just how does Obama's plan to "reduce demand" for electricity account for the inevitable increase in demand created by the dumping ofever more affordable consumer electronics and appliances onto the mass market courtesy of trickle-down effect up and throughout the goods manufacturing chain? For example, as soon as every American household can afford multiple air conditioners, large-screen TVs, next-generation game consoles (the latest of which are electricity guzzlers and all of which tend to be left on for long stretches of time) and those two for one $50 cube heaters that use 1500 watts each, demand for electricity will go through the roof. The recent trend has been towards a substantial fraction of people giving up food before giving up Grand Theft auto or other comparable video entertainment. Add to that the ever increasing number of plugged-in rechargers for dollar (or soon to be dollar) gadgetry, as well as the increasing immigrant population comprising a demographic previously associated with lower energy needs - not to mention the collective American tendency away from delayed gratification when it comes to weighing the short-term impact of petty utility bills on moment-to-moment decisions over whether to consume a given thing in a given moment - and Obama's plan to improve efficiency becomes a palliative measure at best in an economy where "pain at the pump" is causing people to take not to their bicycles, but to their couches.
